Page #73
About this Page: I am proud to say that this page I illustrated all on my own (minus my Dan Harris created characters). My son is really into the planets right now and I was inspired by one of his books that beautifully illustrates Earth. Have you ever noticed the art behind the pages of children’s books?
I never did, but let me tell you, some of it is impressive.
How do you create such perfectly messy crayon looking text, such color contrasting imagery Eric Carl, and such wacky line art Dr. Seuss-that you know was drawn before it even inspired the words?
As a creative person, I’ve noticed that I have a tendency to want to OWN the ability to recreate the art that I see. Usually it’s because I want to own the art but not pay the big price and I am jealous that some other creator is able to successfully profit from a creation that I think is replicable. And so, I set out to create it. Sometimes I am able to do it, in other attempts, I am severely humbled. Either way, I greater appreciate the process after the fact. However, I’m learning that I can’t possess all of the artistic ability to recreate pieces that I very-much-so enjoy. Sometimes, you just have to buy the piece to appreciate it.
The older that I get, the more inspired I am by the human ability to create original work – in any medium. What a gift. What an amazing ability.
Have a great day.
