Deflating that beach ball was no easy task! Thankfully, Adobe Illustrator gave me warping tools. Everyone always wants to use an orange for this demonstration, but I always envisioned something a little more sinister LOL! The sandy beach was a nice pattern overlay, made possible by some free Distresses-Vector-Halftone-Patterns found on Spoongraphic’s website. Aside from his brushes, I’m also a big fan of his vlog on Youtube. I’ve watched some great illustration tutorials there.Halftone Spoon graphics

I referred back to a map projection website, found my favorite, and drew up an armadillo for Dex. I think he’s quite cute. As always, thanks to Dan Harris for my characters, the rest of the page est de moi!

Speaking of a foreign language, if you’re close to a big city and have the opportunity to visit Eataly, the Mario Batali restaurant/Italian grocer-you have GOT to try it. It was my birthday this past weekend and we took a cheese/wine tasting class. WOW-I’ve always said that the best class lectures have food. I felt a little special when the instructor asked anyone in the class if they’ve ever heard of the word, terrior. I remember running across it as a first year teacher from the Harm deBlij textbook, I believe. It has to do with how French wine makers are so in touch with their physical landscape in terms of it’s wine-how the different climate and soil effect the grapes different. The same concept could be applied to cheese and how it is a product created from cows and their different natural grass diets (only organic at Eately). Anyway, if you’re in to $11.00 per pound Crimini Mushrooms, or a Nutella crepe to go-this place is for you! In the meanwhile, it reminded me that geography is EVERYWHERE and EVERYWHERE is geography.
